The most sunny terraces in Brussels

By Charlotte Deprez Published 17/07/2017

When the sun comes back, the Brussels people turn into sunflowers: where there is sun, there are people. Here is our selection of the most sunny terraces of Brussels to spend an afternoon of farniente and enjoy the rays of the sun until the last.

Flagey neighborhood: Café Belga

The emblematic cafe of the capital city leaves its big terrace summer like winter, and has the last rays of sunshine in Brussels all year round! In the summer, the Belga deploys dozens of deckchairs and covers the Place Sainte-Croix to transform it into a vibrant open air bar. Whether you go there at 11am for brunch, at 6pm for a drink or at 1am to end a festive evening, you will find what you need in this Brussels institution.

Café Belga, Place Eugène Flagey 18, 1050 Ixelles. Open from Monday to Thursday from 7:30am to 2am, Friday from 7:30am to 3am, Saturday from 7:30am to 4am and Sunday from 8am to midnight.

Saint-Gilles: Café Maison du Peuple

When it comes to cafés and bars, the Saint-Gilles neighborhood is not to be outdone! And the Café Maison du Peuple really is the heart of this the Saint Gilles life. The terrace is always crowded even if all the other ones around are empty. When the first rays of sun make their appearance, it becomes the most sunny spot of the area. You can enjoy the warm rays by enjoying a good brunch or a fresh Delta almost until sunset.

Café Maison du Peuple, Parvis Saint-Gilles 39, 1060 Sint-Gillis, open from Sunday to Thursday from 8:30am to 1am, Friday and Saturday from 8:30am to 3am, closed on Mondays. Info on cafemdp.com.

Downtown: The Brew Dog

The terrace of the Brew Dog is a well hidden place, and for a good reason: you have to look up to find it! The terrace of this bar, specializing in beer and located just in front of the Central Station, offers a nice view on the Hotel de Ville and the pleasant feeling of being on a small perch, isolated from the rumor of the city. In the summer, the few meters separating the terrace from the ground will ensure you a warm light until sunset. And if you have a craving, the Brew Dog also offers snacks throughout the day.

Brew Dog, Putterie 20, 1000 Brussels, Open from Monday to Thursday from 11am to 1am and Friday and Saturday until 2am. Info on brewdog.be.

Brugmann neighborhood: Le Brugmann

The terrace of the Brugmann is often called “the most beautiful of Brussels”, and this is not an overstatement. In the green and lush Abbé Froidure park, the terrace of the restaurant is a pretty well kept secret. People come here to eat a fine meal in a little green corner of the city!

Brugmann, Avenue Brugmann 52/54, 1190 Brussels, open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm to 2:30pm and from 7pm to 10:30pm, closed on Saturday afternoon. Info on brugmann.com.

European neighborhood: Henri & Agnès

The terrace, or rather the rooftop, of Henri & Agnes opened a few years ago on the heights of the European district. Since then, the terrace on the 5th floor has become a very popular place for city dwellers in search of calm and beautiful views. On top of that, Henri & Agnes offers only local, seasonal and mainly organic food. Pro tip: it’s impossible to book here so, first arrived, first on the terrace!

Henri & Agnès, 48 Véronèse street, 1000 Brussels, open from Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 15:00. Info on henrietagnes.com.

Châtelain: Chez Franz

Chez Franz is not, strictly speaking, in the Châtelain district, but only a few minutes walk away. Big advantage of the place, unlike the cafes on the rue du Bailli, the south facing terrace makes it a the place to be from the beginning of spring. Another element worth highlighting is that the cafe opens 7 days a week! For morning coffee, brunch or afterwork, Franz will become your second home.

Chez Franz, 30 Avenue du Haut-Pont, 1050 Ixelles, open from Monday to Sunday from 8am to midnight (1am on Fridays and Saturdays). Info on chezfranz.com.

Louise area: JAM Hotel

The JAM Hotel is located on Chaussée de Charleroi, just a few minutes away from the Stephanie Square. It’s a lively, modern and urban place that was amazingly decorated by Lionel Jadot. Why is a hotel on this list? Well because their rooftop terrace features an open air swimming pool (very rare in Brussels) and sun until the end of the day. They organize a lot of events and afterworks where all the beautiful people of Brussels meet to have drinks and spend a good time.
