The 10 best unique restaurants in Brussels

By Charlotte Deprez Published 30/08/2017

Brussels is a foodie city, where every craving can be satisfied… If you know where to go! We listed the most unique restaurants in Brussels, whether it’s because of their food, concept or location. Follow the guide!

La Petite Production

Brunch enthusiasts, get ready to have your world turned upside down! Because a few months ago, La Petite Production opened in Brussels. Where it gets interesting is that La Petite Production serves brunch every day… AND all day! Who said we had to wait until Sunday for a good brunch? We tested and we must say that we are convinced.

As for the menu, between the eggs of all kinds, bacon, pancakes, sausages, french toast, maple syrup, beans, … brunch lovers will find everything they need, every day.

5 rue du Couloir, 1050 Ixelles. More info here.

Bia Mara

Fish & chips are bad? Not at Bia Mara! This little restaurant in the center of Brussels has made the bet of proposing only fish and chips, and it’s a real success! You have the choice between different types of fish and prepared in different ways, accompanied by their own sauce and very good homemade fries. For those who do not like fish that much, there’s a chicken version and a veggie version!

41 rue du marché aux poulets, 1000 Brussels. More info here.

Knees to Chin

In line with all the “mono-manic” restaurants that have come to life in Brussels in the recent years, Knees to Chin offers only one specialty! Cooked in a lot of different ways, here, the spring roll is the king of the menu. Duck, veggie, chicken-peanut, the choice will leave nobody unsatisfied. We strongly recommend the peanut sauce. Yes, with every spring roll.

125 rue de Livourne, 1000 Brussels. More info here.

Otap

ÖTAP, freshly opened in the Châtelain neighborhood, has everything to become a must in Brussels. The products are carefully selected and served with a fresh and original (almost gastronomic) presentation. But what makes this place stand out is its concept: here, you share your food!

Ötap celebrates conviviality by proposing to choose among several dishes and then share the feast, taps style. And it’s actually good news, because you’ll want to taste everything from marinated tuna to the homemade gyoza and the chocolate fondant (we’ll take fifteen of this last one, actually. Yes, it’s to take home.). Count 5 to 6 dishes (dessert included) for two people. And did we mention that they also have a killer list of cocktails?

10 place Albert Leemans, 1050 Brussels. More info here.

Chalet Robinson

More than a restaurant, Chalet Robinson is a small haven of peace in the heart of nature, just a stone’s throw from the town. And to make us even happier, hey launched their brunch formula a few months ago.

What makes this place so peculiar? Well, to reach the tiny island where the chalet is located, you will first have to cross the lake by boat … Makes you travel already, right? Once you’re back on firm land, you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet with salads, scrambled eggs and sweets of all kinds.

Sentier de l’embarcadère, Bois de la Cambre, 1000 Brussels. +32 (0)2 372 92 92. More info here.

Mer du Nord

The ultimate address for fish and shellfish lovers! As its name suggests (“Mer du Nord” means “North Sea”), here we eat things that come from the sea. The place is perfect to eat a small fish dish on the go, with a glass of white wine while watching the passers-by of the beautiful Sainte-Catherine neighborhood.

45 rue Sainte-Catherine, 1000 Brussels. More info here.

Fin de Siècle

This über-Belgian “canteen”, just a step away from Grand Place, is a must! The place is quite spacious and typically “Bruxeleir”, the service is efficient and friendly, and the food is really good and tasty. The perfect place to take someone who wants to discover Brussels; they will understand the essence of the city by pushing the door of the Fin de Siècle.

Bao Bang Bang

This new Taiwanese restaurant specializes in making Gua Bao. These small steamed round buns are called “tiger bites pig” when cooked. With chicken, fish, beef or pork, Bao Bang Bang also offers a variety of vegetarian suggestions. And we’ll have the apple gyozas for dessert, a delight!

155 rue de l’Aqueduc, 1050 Ixelles, more info here.

Colonel

Meat lovers, you need to write this down: the best meat in town can be found at Colonel! This meat restaurant is warm, sober and classy, but not too classy. The open kitchen gives you a sneak peek at the impressive meat ovens. Here, you eat your meat with fries and salad, but no need for mayonnaise, trust us. And if you’re in a hurry, you can also just order meat at the counter and take it home, just like at the butcher’s!

24 rue Jean Stas, 1060 Saint-Gilles. More info here.

Hortense & Humus

Hortense started in 2013 as a speakeasy cocktail bar, hidden in Brussels’ caves. At the beginning of 2017, they moved up in the former “Mercerie”, and added food to their menu. The chef offers a seasonal tasting menu that is entirely vegetarian and harmonizes perfectly with the cocktails, Hortense’s DNA. The colors burst out of every plate and every bite take you a bit closer to heaven. The specialties here: the wheat crackers and… Hummus of course!

2 rue de Vergnies, 1050 Ixelles. More info here.
